WHAT IS SSIP

One way an organisation can demonstrate competence in health and safety is to be assessed by a third party. This is also known as conformity assessment. WCS provide ISO 45001 assessment and certification services. However, many of our clients ask about SSIP.

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) is an organisation which enables mutual recognition between health and safety assessment schemes, particularly within the construction industry although this is now moving into other industries. SSIP don’t carry out assessments directly. Their members do. Unfortunately there are so many schemes and members it can get very confusing. There are registered members, certification body members, supporter members and trade body members. Quite often organisations will be approved by multiple schemes despite there being a “deemed to satisfy” and mutual recognition agreement in place.

HOW CAN WCS ASSIST

WCS has chosen not to become certification body member and instead has a Partnership with a Registered Member. The partnership is with PQS Pre-Qualification Scheme.

WHAT IS THE PQS PRE-QUALIFICATION SCHEME

The PQS Pre-Qualification-Scheme™ is a trusted UKAS Accredited Inspection Body, SSIP Registered Member, and Crown Commercial Services G-Cloud approved provider. World Certification is a partner and therefore able to facilitate the simplest, fastest, and most affordable route to achieving Health & Safety Approval with any SSIP Registered Member Scheme.

The SSIP categories that PQS are able to assess include:

SSIP Approved
SSIP Approved: Contractor
SSIP Approved: Designer
SSIP Approved: Principal Contractor
SSIP Approved: Principal Designer

APPLICATION AND OPTIONS

The are two options available to:

WCS Managed
Direct Referral

With the WCS managed option, WCS will enter your details on the PQS portal, purchase the application, upload your H&S documentation and manage the whole assessment process. WCS will charge a management fee and that includes all the PQS assessment fees.

With the direct referral method, you will register on the PQS portal and be responsible for the application and assessment. This is the most cost effective option although more time consuming. The fees are extremely competitive.
