The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is expected to release a new version of ISO 9001 in 2026.
The new version is currently in draft format and still considered under development. The Draft (DIS) was released for comment in August 2025.
Progress can be monitored on the ISO website.

WCS will keep all certified clients updated when the final draft has been issued and indeed when the final version has been released.
Transition rules and timelines
The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) is expected to issue plans for the transition of certificates to the new standard. These are expected to be available before the publication of the new ISO standards. Historically, the transition period has been a maximum of three years from the release date.
Preparing for implementation
Once released, WCS will issue an client update detailing the main changes to the standards. A range of services will be available from training, gap analysis activities and of course transition audits.
