ISO 9001:2000 is an international Standard. It is one of the most widely known and internationally accepted models for a quality system, and the basis of many highly effective quality systems. The Standard can be applied to any size of company or organisation, any industry and any country, for both services and products. The standard itself consists of a set of requirements. These requirements specify what a company must do, but not how to do it.
ISO 9001:2000 comes in a family of standards. The family of standards are:
- ISO 9000:2000 Fundamentals and Vocabulary
- ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Requirements
- ISO 9004:2000 Guidelines for Performance
Improvement
ISO 9001:2000 is based on eight management Principles. These are:
- Customer focus
- Leadership
- Involvement of people
- Process approach
- System approach to management
- Continual improvement
- Factual approach to decision making
- Mutually beneficial supplier relationships
Why should my organization implement ISO 9000?
Many companies see the introduction of a quality management system as a major step forward in controlling and improving their key processes. Others simply react to customer demands that their suppliers should have suitable systems.
What does "Certification" mean?
We define certification as the process by which an impartial company (World Certification Services Ltd.) undertakes an independent and impartial assessment of a clients management system in order for us to make a reasoned judgment on its compliance with an assessment standard (i.e. ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001). Satisfactory compliance leads to the award of a certificate of registration.
The value of a Certificate of Registration
and its credibility may depend on the organisation that
issues it and the status that the organisation has gained
in the market place. Satisfactory status and recognition
is demonstrated by Accreditation from a nationally recognised
Accreditation body such as the United Kingdom Accreditation
Service (UKAS).
What is the value of Certification Bodies accredited by UKAS?
Accredited Certification Bodies must continuously prove to UKAS their competence to certificate organisations in accordance with the referring standards (for quality systems, product certification, people qualification, environmental systems).
Experienced UKAS assessors periodically
assess the ongoing compliance of Certification Bodies.
This includes office and administration functions and
also assessments in the field. This is why certificates
issued by UKAS accredited certification bodies (World
Certification Services) provide recognisable assurance
for registered clients. One of the benefits of using
WCS is that your certificate of registration will include
the prestigious tick and crown UKAS logo.
